Hi, I’m Amy Stengel.
In the busyness of day to day life it is easy for us to lose the connection to our true selves, to the balance that our bodies naturally want to find. My goal is to help people connect back to this inner strength and peace. I aim to do that through modalities like Reiki, a Japanese healing technique that uses light touch to bring relaxation and healing, and Shamanic Reiki, a technique that incorporate elements of nature and indigenous practices with Reiki.
My journey with Reiki…
While caring for my mother as she fought pancreatic cancer, I found a Reiki practitioner near her home and scheduled an appointment for her. During a very challenging stretch of her illness, Reiki brought comfort and peace. At the time, I was so grateful to have found something that provided my mother with an escape from her illness - but I didn’t give it much more thought.
Several years later, a good friend and acupuncturist local to me hosted a Reiki I and Reiki II certification training at her studio. As soon as I heard she was hosting the training, I knew I needed to sign up. I had no idea what I was getting into, but in Reiki I found something that I truly love. There is an adage in Reiki that you don’t find Reiki, it finds you…and I believe that to be true.
Learning and practicing Reiki has helped me to move through and heal from some very challenging life events and I now appreciate how Reiki can benefit everyone - whether they are looking for a way to lessen stress, relax or heal from life’s challenges.
Since my early exploration of these practices through Reiki I and II, I have since expanded my training, obtaining a Usui Reiki Master certification, Shamanic Reiki I, II, Master and Master Teacher certifications and Animal Reiki I and II certification.
My Approach
My goal is to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and safe. When you are in my space, my hope is that you have the ability to let go of the outside world, to do lists and demands and have the opportunity to invest time in your own healing. During sessions, I incorporate natural elements like crystals and aromatherapy to enhance the experience. If you are interested in a Shamanic Reiki session, your experience might include meditations, drumming and natural elements like stones, herbs and flowers. My studio is in my home in a private space where you will have some time to yourself to get settled in before we get started and to come back to reality when we are done. As a note, I do have two cats - you probably won’t see them while you’re here, but in the event you might have allergies, please know they are part of our household.
What Can I expect?
Our time together will last an hour. You should be dressed in comfortable clothes and will remain clothed through the session. When you first arrive, we’ll spend 10-15 mins talking about anything that is going on for you or that you might like to focus on. After that, you will be on a heated (to your preference) massage table with a blanket (if needed). At the conclusion of the session, we will review anything that might have come up during the treatment and discuss any suggested follow up at home.
What does reiki involve?
Reiki is a healing technique that involves using light touch to direct energy and help the client ease into a more relaxed state. Through the session I will place my hands lightly in various places on the body that correspond with different energy centers or areas that might be of particular concern. Recipients of Reiki may feel warmth, slight tingling or nothing at all in the areas that are being touched. We will always discuss any areas of concern before the session and you should feel fully comfortable to share any sensitivities or concerns.
Why Earth and Ocean?
I grew up near the ocean on eastern Long Island. I spent my days growing up gardening with my grandmother, collecting shells, climbing trees and enjoying the beach. I have always felt deeply connected to both the earth and all that it provides to us and the ocean, its power, sound and regenerative qualities. When I thought about what meant enough to me to bring it into a business, I knew that both the earth and the ocean needed to play starring roles.
